Analysis of electromagnetic calorimeter simulation results for the LUXE experiment

The LUXE experiment planned at the X-FEL laboratory in DESY, Hamburg aims to study the interactions of electrons and photons under conditions of very strong electric field strengths, which may lead to effects that require a new theoretical description, going beyond the accepted formalism of linear equations of quantum electrodynamics. One of the key elements of the planned detector setup is an electromagnetic calorimeter ECAL-P used to measure the energy of positrons produced in the reaction:
e + N γ → e e e+
The calorimeter is to be made of tungsten plates and silicon pixel detectors. A detailed simulation of the interaction of positrons in the calorimeter was performed for different incident energies, ranging from 2 to 15 GeV. The aim of the exercise is analyze the simulation results, in particular to examine the expected accuracy of the energy measurement and the impact of longitudinal and transverse segmentation of the calorimeter on the measurement.
